Covid LIVE: India reports 38,948 new cases, global caseload tops 220.6 mn

India logged 38,948 new coronavirus infections taking the total tally of COVID-19 cases to 33,027,621, while the death toll climbed to 440,752 with 219 fresh fatalities, the lowest in 167 days, according to the Union Health Ministry data updated on Monday.

The case fatality rate has declined to 1.33 per cent, according to the data updated at 8 am.

India had reported 199 deaths in a single day on March 23.

Meanwhile, the global Coronavirus (Covid-19) caseload has topped 220.6 million, while the deaths have surged to more than 4.56 million vaccinations soared to over 5.44 billion, according to the Johns Hopkins University.

In its latest update on Monday morning, the University’s Center for Systems Science Engineering (CSSE) revealed that the current global caseload, death toll vaccination tally stood at 220,624,875, 4,566,726 5,446,556,336, respectively.

The US continues to be the worst-hit country with the world’s highest number of cases deaths at 39,941,581 648,467, respectively, according to the CSSE.
